Animal psychology - cat consultation:

How I got into animal psychology:

My experience as a mobile pet sitter in Hanover at the time led me to pursue a state-certified (ZFU) course of study to become an animal psychologist, behavior and husbandry consultant. I am trained in the areas of dog, cat, and horse husbandry and behavior consulting, as well as animal psychology. Specifically, I offer expertise in animal behavior (obscurities, behavioral disorders, natural behavior (not every behavior described by the owner is actually a disorder), behavioral training (training structure, process, therapy plans), and species-appropriate husbandry (nutrition, grooming, and environment design for cats, enclosure equipment, etc. for rodents)). I also provide husbandry advice for rodents. Since the end of 2018, I have been a certified cat psychologist, and since the beginning of 2020, I have also successfully completed training in dogs, horses, and rodents. I have already helped many cats and their owners in need through my regular Instagram page, @petlovede, especially with cat introductions and husbandry advice. Previously, I offered mobile pet care services in Hanover on my website. However, I closed that page because I no longer live in Hanover, which is why this service is now integrated into the shop.

My animal psychology studies are a ZFU-certified course with the state approval number: 7304416

Cat psychology and behavioral consulting:

I would like to emphasize the importance of seeking help as early as possible in the development of a behavioral problem. The longer a genuine behavioral disorder remains untreated and no action is taken to guide the animal back on the right track, the more the behavior can become a ritualized disorder, which is very difficult, if not impossible, to treat.

This also applies to cats that urinate inappropriately or horses that crib. A cat that has been urinating everywhere for a year and has intensified the behavior to the point where you finally get around to seeking help may no longer be successfully treated. You have the best chance of resolving the problem if you seek help right from the start.

It is crucial to first have a veterinarian determine that the animal is healthy, as many behavioral problems can be caused by illness. Sudden aggression in cats towards other cats in the household, especially after a period of harmony, is almost always a sign that something is wrong with one of the animals. The aggression can originate from the sick cat itself, or from the other cats in the household towards the cat with health problems. Cats are masters at hiding pain and illness. Just because you don't notice that your cat isn't feeling well doesn't necessarily mean that it is.

Mergers:

If you decide to introduce new cats into your existing household, this should be a well-considered decision. I'm happy to help you choose the right new companion. It's extremely important that they are compatible in terms of personality, otherwise problems can arise, sometimes to the point where integration becomes impossible.

Initial purchase consultation:

If you haven't owned cats or dogs before, please seek advice first. Every breed and every personality is different and should ideally be a good fit for the family to ensure a happy life together for everyone. It benefits no one if either the cat or the humans are unhappy. Furthermore, all family members should be in agreement about getting a pet and look forward to it. This might sound strange to some, but unfortunately, disagreements about this are more common than you might think.

If you decide to work together, it's crucial that you implement the therapy approaches and plans exactly as discussed. If you only follow them occasionally, nothing will change. This won't improve your life or the lives of your four-legged friends in the long run.

When you book therapy with me, you will receive a detailed questionnaire (anamnesis form) by email. This must be completed fully and as thoroughly as possible so that I can assess your situation beforehand. A floor plan of your apartment/house, or possibly photos and videos, would also be helpful for this assessment.

I currently only offer cat behavior therapy/consulting, as I first need to successfully pass a competency test before the responsible veterinary office in order to work in the field of dog therapy.
